Lance Peters' Black Bittern photo taken 3 December is a contender for 2009 photo of the year.

"Crocodile Bird" Great-billed Heron by John Dent, 3 November 2009.
A fine photograph of our most sought after bird.

If there was just one aspect of a dawn river trip on the Daintree that I liked the most then this would be it.

A Black-necked Stork makes quite a spectacle as it takes off also on Tuesday April 14. Photo by Jean-Pierre Boizumault

We are looking for a really good photo of the male Shining Flycatcher (left) showing the iridescent orange gape. This photo by Richard Posener Monday 13 April isn't bad. It has captured the upright posture but the gape isn't full. Can you take a photo like this? Maybe, we see Shining Flycatchers a lot but it is a difficult subject because it moves around so much and goes in places where the auto-focus will not necessarily focus on the bird.
