Our wildlife Daintree River tour at dawn is ideal for wildlife photography. Essentially we can put you up close smoothly without disturbing the subject. Here Dean Portelli is photographing a Papuan Frogmouth up one of the small creeks that run into the Daintree River.

"Hi Chris, Great to hear from you!  I still have a bunch of work to do on my Australia pages, but it's getting there.
When we got home from the trip in mid August, it was shorebird migration time here.  A busy time for me!
I'll add a link to your tour web page the next time I'm working on my site.
Thanks again for the wonderful experiences on your boat.  I'll be back!
Cheers, Bob"

"The real standout for me was Chris Dahlberg and his early morning Daintree river trip.  Frank had put me onto Chris and I ended up doing three trips with him.  His knowledge of the river, birds and call was almost uncanny.  His boat control was brilliant and he repeatedly put us into great positions for photography.  Chris leaves from Daintree Village in the early morning so the river is still and there is no disturbance from other operators.  It is a 90 minute drive north from Cairns which meant an early start but well worth it.  The whole family enjoyed two of the trips but I made one on my own as 04h00 starts were a bit much even for my birding and photography mad teenage daughter.  Chris was very generous toward us and is just a genuine nice guy who has a great job and does it really well!"

"Chris' knowledge of the birds on the river is exceptional. Our environment is so precious and people like Chris are priceless."

John Young

"…...obvious that he was offering an environmental experience in the truest sense of the word."

This page replaces the old Daintree Wildlife gallery page. I think this is a lot better and shows some of the photographers and film-makers with whom I have spent some of those magic moments. What you can see and photograph on our trip is predictable and because a well driven boat is smooth you can get closer than you would think to certain species.
We offer seats on our 2 hour trips for $55. We offer advice for free. Contact by e-mail is best because it will give me time to research your enquiry and answer it with links to information that will help you get the photos you want.

STEVE ARLOW reflects on his Australian visit in a trip report to Travellingbirder.com

Day 4: 12th November, Wednesday
This was perhaps the best birding day so far, at least the morning was. I and only two others were the only passengers on the boat today where we were fortunate enough to pick up a number of the target species. There was a Bar-shouldered Dove in the town on the walk to the jetty and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos were overhead along with many White-rumped Swiftlets. The river trip was excellent birding either end of the river. An Azure Kingfisher shot past just be we set off and there were numerous commoner species present however during the trip the highlights were the Black Bittern, two Great-billed Herons in one tree, three Yellow Orioles, three Bush-hens including a fighting duo, a Dollarbird, three Large-billed Gerygones (Jer-ridge-o-knee), a Cicadabird proving its name by sounding like its name sake, male and two female Shining Flycatchers and two Papuan Frogmouths on nests over the river, the second one a bit more visible than the first. An enjoyable river cruise with some quality birds seen. Back on land I spent half an hour photographing Rainbow Lorikeets in a stunning red tree before heading back for breakfast.
